Edeyn's mother is one of the more experienced healers in House Veirnan's service, while her father had been an adviser to the ruling lady at the time, Lady Fiona. As such, they were often kept extremely busy with their duties, while she, the eldest child, was left to babysit her younger siblings when she wasn't busy with her studying. Her family has traditionally been in the service of House Veirnan, for many long years, due to a promise made by her ancestors to them. And so they have served faithfully each Lord or Lady that ruled, with no signs of wavering.
Her own childhood was fairly uneventful; since she was around the same age as Veirnan's heir, she was raised to become his chief adviser, trained by scholars in the household beginning at the age of six. Not long after, she became a pegasus knight, and her training was spread to the field as well. Being ambitious, and having an affinity for magic, she began to study light magic, trying to see how well she could experiment knowing how to cast and then attempting to do it from Pegasus-back, and matching her skills with those of Symeon, as well as improving her skills with healing, as well. It was an odd project, but one she was determined to succeed in.
She became rather close to Lord Symeon, and when she wasn't busy being taught, she would often aid him in his little schemes, (things that in hindsight she would probably now hit him over the head for), the most major of these incidents included flying him out to visit his sister while the woman was still alive, and aiding him in bringing back his sickly nephew Myca after her death, and they also formed a close bond.
Ever since the death of her father, (which ironically, occurred just before the death of Lady Fiona), she has been seen as the head of her family, as her mother was not quite the leader that she was, despite her skill in healing. It can be argued that she's also the [unofficial] head of House Veirnan as well. While Lord Symeon generally has the final say in matters she brings to his attention, it is always she that is there, making sure that things run smoothly. That being said, there are some matters which she does not bring to his attention, or matters he just doesn't seem to pay attention to. In which case, she has no qualms about relying on her own judgment to get things done. He is aware of this, but allows her to get away with it, mostly because he never had much to do with the running of the household while his Mother was there, and the transition of power simply went from Fiona to Edeyn, since, arguably, she was always there, and this is what she was meant to do.
His three daughters, being left without a Mother figure since the death of Lady Fiona, have her to look to as a mother figure, though she continually presses for Symeon to remarry, though he has been quite stubborn in that regard. It is not uncommon on occasion to have rumors drifting about of people believing that her intention is to marry him herself, but those are usually quelled by a sharp look, or by other methods, depending when and how they are heard. Not once has this said directly to her face, but it isn't entirely difficult to read what other people are thinking by their expressions and tone alone, allies and those skeptical alike.
It can be argued that she is responsible for too many things, however it is generally accepted that she is more than capable.

Edeyn is at a glance, shrewd, responsible, and practical. Direct, and has little patience, though finds other tasks to channel her annoyance into if she hits a wall. Despite all of this, she is quite overprotective of those that she cares for and very loyal, though she isn't afraid to say or do what she thinks is best on her own terms. She feels very little regret for her actions, if she feels they have benefited House Veirnan or her liege lord. She is the one who has to point out the hard, cold, pragmatic side to a lot of things, because most of the time, Symeon is just too gentle to want to think about it. (Which bothers her, for as progressive as she is, she has always believed that men should be stronger than women).
Beyond the glance and if she's not too focused on her work, (granted she is a workaholic), she does seem to know how to smile, unlike most work-driven people, and how to tease (and tease she will, if given the proper ammunition), and when she is in a particularly good mood, everyone is aware of it. Of course, her cheerfulness does have it's limits.
After all, it is typically those she sees on a regular basis who get to see this side; Symeon, Myca, his children, and his guests. Only Symeon and Myca have ever witnessed her actually 'lose her cool', and that's only if either of them are being particularly frustrating, and only on a personal level. Unfortunately those two do have a tendency to be frustrating on more than one occasion.
As she is a very busy woman however, she does very often seem cold and distant to those who don't know her very well, especially since after the death of Lady Fiona, she has been the one to step in and take over where Symeon could not, in regards to his family, and the running of House Veirnan. Her duties are extremely important to her. As she is so very busy tending to the needs of others, not to mention still guiding the lives of those in her own family, she has never really focused on her own personal goals for a while, her ambition from her younger years aside. In regards to this she is rather private, and keeps to herself.

Edeyn is of an average height for a woman. Her build is slender, and she has a graceful air about her. Her complexion is pale, and her striking blue eyes don't seem the type to miss much of what goes on in front of her. Her hair is a light brown in shade, and is rather long and straight, giving her a very youthful appearance.
